JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: CHILD CARE DIRECTOR
Grace Lutheran Church, Neligh, NE

It is the primary faith-teaching station and environment for our people to live out their faith. We seek to support and partner in that work.

This job description is outcome based and relatively broad in scope to provide both direction and freedom. This position is flexible to allow for needed change and variation as programs develop and needs emerge.

The Childcare Director’s responsibility is to serve the church by directing, coordinating and guiding the childcare program of the church and providing leadership to and supervision of staff members and volunteers involved in this ministry.


Qualifications:

The Childcare Director is an individual who …

a. Demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and Bible Study;
 
b. Demonstrates a high level of Christian moral integrity
 
c. Is mature in the faith and exhibits an understanding of service within the church and a desire to apply his or her talents within the context;
 
d. Is committed to the teachings of Grace Lutheran Church;
 
e. Must be of legal age of majority;

f. Have a solid training in the Childcare field or;
1. At least 2 years’ experience in early childhood
2. Hold a bachelor degree from an accredited college/university and at least 6 credit hours in early childhood education or an associate degree in early childhood education

g. Is willing to grow in his or her field of expertise;

h. Exhibits a willingness to cooperate and function effectively in a team ministry;

i. Can motivate others by communicating and delegating effectively.

Reporting Relationships:

The Childcare Director shall …

a. Report to and receive oversight from the Grace Lutheran Childcare Board President;

b. Give reports to the Board and attend their meetings;

Work Expectations:

The Childcare Director is expected to work approximately 40-50 hours a week on work-related activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

1. Staff
 Hires, supervises and schedules the childcare staff
 Checks background of all staff
 Keeps staff current on continuing education requirements
 Writes job descriptions and performs periodic performance reviews
 Administers discipline
 Assists staff in setting and working toward professional and spiritual goals

2. Parent Relations
 The director in most cases is the first point of contact that a parent makes with Grace Lutheran Childcare. Give initial tour and speak highly of entire ministry
 Ensure that parents receive communication about their child’s progress
 Address any complaints and concerns of parents
 Maintain the handbook and communicate policies, fees, regulations, and curriculum

3. Regulations
a. Ensure all federal, state, and local regulations governing child care centers are being adhered to daily
b. Draft policies and procedures for the daycare to help ensure continued compliance with regulations
c. Ensure all Food Program regulations are met daily

4. Administrative and Finances
a. Set and collect fees for service
b. Assist with pay rates for workers
c. Draft the budget and order all supplies
d. Participate in staff development
e. Communicate with Pastor regarding weekly religious education
f. Prepare a monthly newsletter article
