+ Jolene Anne Mosel + Funeral

Jolene Anne Mosel
Born: October 16, 1962
Died: July 04, 2016

Jolene Anne Mosel, 53 of Neligh, NE, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh, NE with Rev. David Kufahl and Vicar Justin Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow in the West Willowdale Cemetery, rural Brunswick, NE. Visitation will be 5-8 Thursday at the church. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be designated to the Jolene A. Mosel scholarship fund at Pinnacle Bank in Neligh.

Jolene Anne Wortman was born October 16, 1962 in Neligh, NE to LeRoy and Gail (Pellatz) Wortman. Jolene grew up on a farm north of Neligh where she developed her love of animals, except for birds. This love spurred an early interest in veterinary science but her passion eventually evolved to caring for people, leading her to attain an associate degree in Nursing at Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha, after graduating from Neligh-Oakdale High School in 1981.

Her educational experiences always displayed the many loves Jolene had. During her high school career, she participated in 4-H, which led to honors including attendance at National 4-H Aquatic Convention, and serving as Antelope County Pork Queen in 1980, and Nebraska State Pork Queen and Antelope County 4-H Queen in 1981.

Jolene was known for being very active and this was no less evident than in 1983, when between July and September, she passed her nursing state boards, married her long time love, Randy Gene Mosel on August 13, and began working at Antelope Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse.
After marrying, Randy and Jolene resided in the rural Neligh area where Randy farmed with his family and Jolene quickly advanced to a supervisory position in her nursing career. On January 2, 1987, Randy and Jolene added a son (Dane Austin) to their union. He was followed by three siblings, Miranda Jo on November 17, 1989, Chandra Leigh on March 26, 1991, and Ethan Chandler on January 28, 1994.

As a mother, Jolene relished being involved in her children’s activities and greatly enjoyed the fact that all her children were able to attend school at District 4 where she, herself, attended as a child. Jolene encouraged her children to participate in 4-H, athletics, music, and FCCLA throughout their academic careers. During their participation, Jolene served as a 4-H club leader and was honored for her volunteer service as an FCCLA parent and judge.

Always busy, Jolene added to her roles of farming partner, parent of four, and nurse by taking on the position of Assistant Director at Hoepfinger-Beyer Funeral Home in 1997. Somehow, though, Jolene continued to have time to stay involved with her community, assisting with vacation bible school, selling baked goods at the Farmers’ market, helping run the annual Antelope County Fair concession stand, and serving with the Mid-AM Milk Cooperative YC counsel, just to name a few.

In 2011, Jolene was diagnosed with breast cancer and became very proactive in her care. During her battle she was blessed with exceptional love and support from family, friends, and the community at large, as many rallied behind her through a benefit that allowed her to utilize treatment options that may have not been afforded to her. After a tough five year battle, Jolene died peacefully at her home on July 4, 2016.

She is survived by Randy, her husband of 32 years: her children and spouses; Dane & Kristen (Weiss) Mosel, Miranda & Juan Lopez, Chandra & Aaron Blase, and Ethan Mosel; granddaughter Leilani Lopez; parents LeRoy and Gail Wortman; siblings and spouses Roger & Rosemary (Wortman) Legate, James & Mary Jo (Salber) Wortman, Randy & Misty (Bockelmann) Wortman, and Tim & Jenilee (Wortman) Negley; mother-in-law Myrna (Ernst) Mosel, brother-in-law Dr. Ron & Denise (Shaw) Mosel, sister-in-law Rhonda (Mosel) & Dave Anson, sister-in-law Sandy (Pellatz) Mosel; and 15 nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, father-in-law Gene Mosel, brother-in-law Rickey Mosel, and nephew Garet Legate.
